The ability of pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) to accurately report their symptoms is a significant obstacle in providing effective treatment. Our aim was to encourage young patients to take an active role in managing their health by providing insights into potential flare-up triggers, providing healthcare practitioners (HCPs) with a better understanding of patient habits to make more informed treatment decisions.
We developed an iPhone and Android app for IBD pediatric patients allowing them to track symptoms in real time and visualize events that may be contributing to their flare-ups. Patients and/or their caregivers can create trend graphs of individual parameters to share with HCPs, and access an extensive repository of educational materials.
This powerful tool serves to help young patients take on the responsibility of regular symptom recording and prepare them as they transition to adult services.
