What spiciness lurks within?

Our team of INVIVIACs rallied recently to raise money for Second Harvest’s Hero Day 2014. Enthusiasm to help was there from the start, and what better way to beat the winter blahs than a Chili Cook-Off?

Hot in Here: raising money for a good cause the warmest way we could in February.

Our Chili Cook Artisans took us on a flavour tour through the Scoville units. Dishes ranged from “A Moose Loose in the SouthWest” to chili packed with Scotch Bonnet peppers, to vegetarian and even dessert chili. For $20 each we had an all-you-can-eat lunch and sold Hero Day raffle tickets in support of Second Harvest. INVIVO Art Director Peter Henderson organized the event. He explains,

“With my side food business ESÉ I have a strong passion in keeping people happy and fed, so it was a no-brainer when it comes to supporting Second Harvest. They’re an amazing organization that we have helped in the past and we love their involvement in the community here in Toronto. Knowing everyone at INVIVO LOVES FOOD, I helped organize the Chili Cook -Off in our office to spread the word about Second Harvest and raise funds for Hero Day. Couldn’t have timed it better with winter weather outside. I hope this becomes a tradition here at INVIVO.”

It wasn’t enough just to eat the chili…

…we also put it to a vote.

So crumbs. Much corn. Wow.

Second Harvest has an amazing network and rescues food that would otherwise go to waste for families and people in need. From their website:

Funds raised through the Hero campaign enable Second Harvest to rescue excess food, that would have otherwise gone to waste, and deliver that good food to community agencies across the city. Grocery stores, restaurants, hotels, food manufacturers and distributors donate all the food. Vulnerable children, adults and seniors in need receive the food though Second Harvest’s network of 200 community agencies.

After voting on the chili dishes and awarding Senior QA Specialist Paul Pethick the winner for his crowd-pleasing medium-hot chili with bacon, the INVIVO team managed to raise over $800 in support of Hero Day 2014. So glad we could help!  And now we have that warm (spicy) glow.
