
CHALLENGE:
Alcon’s LenSx® is a leading technology used in cataract surgeries worldwide. But sales reps still found it challenging to convey to surgeons and hospital administrators how the large LenSx® machine would fit within the surgeon’s existing surgical suite without shipping in an actual machine—a costly venture.
TRANSFORMATION:
We created an augmented reality application that would run on Sales reps’ existing iPads as a seamless part of their conversations with surgeons. By placing a small image target on the floor, the iPad displays a hyper realistic, true-to-size 3D model of the LenSx® machine right in front of customers’ eyes. The surgeon can accurately evaluate the equipment’s size within their own surgical environment by walking around the Augmented Reality version of the machine and exploring it from any angle.
RESULT:
Release of the LenSx® Augmented Reality App was prescient—coming out in conjunction with Pokemon Go, Alcon capitalized on the excitement around augmented reality to reinforce themselves as the industry leader in ophthalmology, while strategically using this new technology for a practical solution to a pressing need.
