CHALLENGE:
Improving & Driving Excellence Across Sectors(IDEAS), a University of Toronto academic lead program, was interested in developing a blended e-Learning certification program to provide quality improvement training programs aimed at a variety of healthcare providers (HCP) (i.e., hospitals, clinics and medical schools). The content would need to be engaging, self-directed and delivered in such a manner that could be tracked for certification with several governing health care associations.
TRANSFORMATION:
We began the project by translating the in-person content into 4 interactive, narrative-driven modules with an HCP focused story. We then designed a cloud-based system to manage the content, and track the learner’s experience. This information would be reported back to key stakeholders with a focus on the potential commercialization of the solution.
RESULT:
For the first 9 months, over 1,300 HCP’s from 7 medical schools across Canada signed up to complete their certification on the Foundations of QI. The program adequately demonstrated to university administrators, the large-scale reach and fidelity of online certification courses.
